By on December 28, 2014

Chelsea opened the door to their Premier League title rivals after being held to a 1-1 draw by Southampton at St Mary’s this afternoon.

The hosts opened the scoring early in the first half when John Terry allowed Saido Mane to run clear after a failed attempt to play offside and the young forward kept his calm to lob over Thibaut Courtois for 1-0.

The Blues drew level on the stroke of half time when Eden Hazard drifted inside before curling home past Forster for 1-1.

Both sides had chances to grab a winner but no further goals were scored in the second half and it ended 1-1.

The draw sees Chelsea move four points clear at the top of the league but Manchester City can cut the gap to just a single point if they beat Burnley at home – with the score currently 2-1 to City at the time of writing.
