Arsenal and Manchester United have been told by Morgan Schneiderlin they will have to wait until the summer if they want to prize him away from Southampton.

Schneiderlin was strongly linked with a move away from St Mary’s in the summer with Arsenal understood to have put together a lucrative contract offer to try and lure the midfielder to the Emirates.

A move failed to materialise and Schneiderlin was forced to vent his frustration on Twitter after Southampton refused to let him join the likes of Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert, Dejan Lovren, Calum Chambers and Luke Shaw in leaving the club in the summer.

With the French international continuing his excellent form this season, speculation in recent weeks has suggested that Arsenal are ready to renew their interest in the £27m-rated midfielder while Manchester United are also believed to be ready to join the race for the 25-year-old’s signature.

However, Schneiderlin has now all-but ruled out any possibility of leaving St Mary’s this month after telling reporters he will see out the rest of the season with Southampton before assessing his future next summer.

When asked if he could be on the move this month, he told reporters:

“That I don’t know. January is always a delicate month to leave in.

“I will finish my season with Southampton and then see what happens in the future.

“I don’t get worried about these things anymore.

“If this summer I have learned something, you can never think: I am gone, gone for good.”

The news will come as a blow to Arsene Wenger as the Gunners boss is believed to be on the look-out for a new midfield general after seeing a number of his current crop sidelined through injury during the first half of the season, and Schneiderlin has once again emerged as a top target.

Likewise, Louis van Gaal has reportedly made the French international one of his key targets to replace 34-year-old Michael Carrick, but both managers are now likely to have to wait until the end of the season if they want to land the former Strasbourg ace.

It remains to be seen whether either Wenger or van Gaal will still try and push ahead with a move for Schneiderlin following his comments, but I’d think Southampton may find it difficult to reject the reported £27m bids the Premier League giants are understood to be lining-up, so you never know, a deal could still be on the cards. Money talks these days, afterall….
