Wenger Confirms He’s Agreed Deal For First January Signing

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed he’s agreed a fee for his first January signing and the player will undergo a medical in London today. More details…

With the January transfer now open for business, managers are strengthening their squads ahead of the second half of the season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Arsenal confirm a deal is in place for Krystian Bielik….

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed he’s agreed a fee with Legia Warsaw for Krystian Bielik and the midfielder will undergo a medical in London today.

We’ve been strongly linked with the 17-year-old in recent months and news emerged earlier this week that chief transfer negotiator Dick Law had travelled to Poland to finally thrash out a deal having already had two bids rejected by Legia.

Reports on Wednesday claimed that our third bid worth €3m (£2.3m) had been accepted and Legia confirmed on their website yesterday that they’d given permission for Bielik to travel to London to conclude the move.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s clash with Manchester City this morning, Arsene also confirmed the news and the youngster is due to undergo his medical this afternoon after we agreed a deal for his signature.

When asked about Bielik, the boss said:

“He is having a medical today. A fee has been agreed”

As long as there are no problems with the medical, Bielik is expected to sign his contract on Monday and will then become Arsenal’s first signing of the January transfer window with the youngster set to be integrated into the first team set-up quickly.

The 6ft 2in defensive midfielder is highly rated in Poland and is expected to have a bright future ahead of him, but I don’t think he’ll have any real impact on the first team for the foreseeable future as he’ll need some time to adapt, so it’s going to be interesting to see if Arsene looks to bring in another more experienced midfielder this month after Mikel Arteta was ruled out for at least six weeks with an ankle injury.
