Arsenal Line-Up €8m Bid For Man Utd Target, Agent Confirms Player Wants Move

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is lining-up an €8m bid for Man Utd target Hector Moreno after the players agent confirmed he’s looking for a new club this month

With the January transfer now open for business, managers are strengthening their squads ahead of the second half of the season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Arsenal are linked with Man Utd target Hector Moreno….

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is lining-up an €8m bid for Manchester United target Hector Moreno after the players agent confirmed he’s looking for a new club this month, according to reports.

Wenger is on the look-out for a new defender after seeing his lack of options at the back exposed during the first half of the season, with full-backs Mathieu Debuchy and Nacho Monreal forced to fill-in while Laurent Koscielny was out injured.

With Debuchy now set for another spell on the sidelines having suffered a dislocated shoulder last weekend, the Gunners boss is now stepping-up his hunt and the Express claim the Frenchman has identified Espanyol’s Hector Moreno and is lining-up an €8m (£6m) bid.

Reports last week suggested that Arsenal had sent scout Brian McDermott over to Spain to watch Moreno during a 2-0 win over Valencia in the Copa del Rey and it looks like they were suitably impressed as it appears the North Londoners are set to step up their interest with a formal offer.

However, Arsenal will face stiff competition for Moreno’s signature as the newspaper suggests that Manchester United are also keen on the Mexican international while Tottenham have been linked in the past too.

Louis van Gaal is also hoping to strengthen his defensive options this month after being forced to field a make-shift back-line on several occasions this season due to a number of injuries at the back, and the Dutchman knows Moreno well from their time together at AZ Alkmaar.

But it sounds like Arsenal have the most serious interest at this stage and the 26-year-old’s agent, Eduardo Hernandez, has recently confirmed that his client wants to leave Espanyol this month.

“Moreno is leaving Espanyol. He wants to leave and we’re looking for another team in Europe.” Hernandez is quoted as saying by the Express

Moreno caught the eye for Mexico at last summers World Cup finals in Brazil but he’s been restricted to making just five first team appearances in La Liga this term after only recently recovering from a broken leg.

He’s now fully-fit and although it remains to be seen how Man Utd will react if Arsenal do table a formal offer, it’s going to be interesting to see whether he ends up coming to the Premier League before the window slams shut on February 2nd.
