Liverpool eased to a 2-0 victory over Aston Villa at Villa Park on Saturday afternoon thanks to goals from Fabio Borini and Rickie Lambert.

The Reds opened the scoring in the 24th minute when Borini was on hand to volley home a Jordan Henderson cross from close range for 1-0.

Villa pushed for an equaliser but Brendan Rodgers men wrapped up the three points when substitute Lambert fired home the second in the 79th minute.

The win sees Liverpool climb to seventh place in the Premier League table and just four points adrift of fourth placed Southampton.
