Man Utd Close In On €20m Transfer, Player Ready To Sign Lucrative Contract

Manchester United are closing in on the signing of Aleksandar Dragovic after Old Trafford chiefs gave the go-ahead to a €20m deal for the Austrian international

With the January transfer window in full swing, managers are strengthening their squads ahead of the second half of the season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Man Utd make their move for Aleksandar Dragovic….

Manchester United are closing in on the signing of Dinamo Kiev defender Aleksandar Dragovic after Old Trafford chiefs gave the go-ahead to a €20m deal for the Austrian international, according to reports.

Dragovic has excelled since joining Dynamo Kiev from FC Basel in 2013 and his impressive form has attracted interest from a whole host of European clubs including the likes of Juventus, Zenit St Petersburg and Roma.

However, reports last week claimed that Manchester United had joined the race with Louis van Gaal supposedly making the Austrian his primary target after giving up hope of landing Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels this month.

Now, reports coming out of Austrian from Sportsnet.at claim that Manchester United chiefs have given the green light to a €20m (£14.9m) deal and Dragovic is now believed to be close to making a move to Old Trafford.

The media outlet suggest that United have already put together a lucrative contract for the 23-year-old and the deal is just awaiting the players signature before the switch is complete.

van Gaal is keen to strengthen his options at the back as the Dutchman has had to endure crippling injuries to his centre-back’s during the first half of the campaign, with Jonny Evans, Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling all spending time on the sidelines at one stage or another.

Dragovic would certainly be an interesting option if these reports prove accurate as he has the potential to be a top class defender, but we’ll have to wait and see how much truth there is behind Sportsnet’s claims.

The former Austria Vienna centre-back stands at 6ft 1in and is powerfully built, so he should have no trouble adapting to life in the Premier League if he does end up joining United, and van Gaal will hope he’s the man to tighten their defence as they’ve looked suspect at times this season.
