Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s injury is likely to keep him out of next weeks Tottenham game but Danny Welbeck and Jack Wilshere are on the verge of a comebacks.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has been nursing a groin injury of late and was left out of last weeks FA Cup victory over Brighton after aggravating the problem against Man City the previous week.

The injury was initially only thought to be a minor one but Wenger has confirmed that The Ox is now facing more time on the sidelines as the injury will not only keep him out of Sunday’s clash with Aston Villa, but the 21-year-old is also expected to miss next weekend’s visit to White Hart Lane.

While that news will come as a blow to Arsenal, there was some positive team news to come from Wenger’s press conference this morning with the Frenchman revealing that Danny Welbeck is set to make his return from injury.

The 23-year-old has been on the sidelines since suffering a thigh injury against West Ham on Boxing Day but Wenger has said the attacker could be available to face Villa if he wanted to take a gamble on him, but he’ll definitely be available to take on Spurs next week.

In a double boost for the Gunners, Jack Wilshere is set to return to full training in 10 days time. The midfielder has been out since suffering ankle ligament damage in November but is ahead of schedule in his rehabilitation and should be back playing again by late February.

Here’s what Wenger told the media at his press conference this morning:
