Man Utd Hope To Beat Arsenal To €25m Attacker After Holding Talks Over Summer Move
Man Utd hope they have already done enough to secure the signature of Arsenal target Marco Reus this summer after holding talks in January over a €25m move
The January transfer window is now closed but that won’t stop the newspapers from speculating ahead of the summer so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Man Utd are linked with Arsenal target Marco Reus….
Manchester United hope they have already done enough to secure the signature of key Arsenal target Marco Reus this summer after holding talks in January over a €25m move, according to reports.
Reus is now regarded as one of the best attackers in Europe after two excellent seasons at Borussia Dortmund where the winger has scored 47 goals in 100 appearances since making the move from Borussia Mönchengladbach back in 2012.
The 25-year-old’s future at the Westfalenstadion is in serious doubt as he’ll be able to leave this summer if a club comes in with a bid of just €25m (£20m) – which represents an absolute bargain in today’s over inflated market for a player of his quality.
Understandably, there is plenty of interest from all over Europe but reports have suggested that it’s Arsenal and Manchester United who are leading the way out of the Premier League clubs involved and the duo were boosted by reports over the weekend claiming that Bayern Munich had ended their interest in the attacker.
It seems United have now stolen a march on the Gunners as the Express are reporting that the Red Devils made contact with Dortmund about Reus in January and held talks over a potential summer move.
The newspaper suggests that Louis van Gaal is now hopeful they’ve done enough to establish themselves as the favourites and they’ll be able lure the sought-after German international to Old Trafford at the end of the season.
However, United may still have a fight on their hands as speculation just last week claimed that Reus has already decided he wants to join Arsenal in order to work under Arsene Wenger at the Emirates next season.
It’s difficult to know how much truth there is in any of these reports but it’s already gearing up to be one of this summers great transfer stories as Reus is going to be the bargain of the year for whoever ends up buying him.
With Lukas Podolski expected to leave the Emirates on a permanent deal at the end of the season, there could be a space open in Arsene Wenger’s squad and I’m sure Gunners fans would love Reus to be the man to fill it.
But United are expected to splash the cash once again next summer and a player of Reus’s quality will surely appeal to van Gaal, while there is also likely to be competition from all over Europe, so it’s going to be interesting to see where he ends up.
