Liverpool vs Tottenham Preview, Team News, Likely Line-Ups, Prediction & Betting

Liverpool take on Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield this evening. Here’s a preview with team news, line-ups, predicted score and betting tips for the game.

Anfield Kop

Both sides will be looking to give their top four hopes a major boost as Liverpool entertain Tottenham at Anfield tonight.

The Reds extended their unbeaten run to eight games with a 0-0 draw at Everton on Saturday night but the stalemate leaves them sitting seventh in the Premier League table – five points adrift of fourth-placed Man Utd.

Tottenham are now four points ahead of Liverpool after jumping to fifth with a 2-1 win over Arsenal at the weekend, so Brendan Rodgers will be desperate for a win to close the gap and keep in touch with the top four.

The Merseysiders should be confident of picking up a positive result as they have an excellent home record against Spurs having lost just once in their last 20 games at Anfield.

However, the North Londoners arrive off the back of a superb run of form and will be buzzing after their derby win over Arsenal so Mauricio Pochettino will be quietly confident of improving upon their poor record at Liverpool tonight.

Team news

The hosts will have to make do without Lucas Leiva with the midfielder facing at least a month on the sidelines with a groin injury that he aggravated against Everton on Saturday.

But the good news for Liverpool is that Raheem Sterling and Philippe Coutinho are expected to shake-off knocks which forced them off at Goodison Park.

Adam Lallana is set to return to the squad after missing out at the weekend while Daniel Sturridge could make his first start in over five months after making three substitute appearances in recent weeks following a lengthy injury lay-off.

Tottenham have a fully-fit squad to choose from but Pochettino could bring Andros Townsend and Nacer Chadli in to the side to freshen things up in attack.

Likely Line-Ups

Predicted Score

Liverpool 1-1 Tottenham: There is a lot at stake tonight as defeat for Liverpool would be a hammer blow in their attempts to qualify for the Champions League again. The league’s top two form sides over the last six games will face off against each other and I can see them playing out a 1-1 draw this evening.

Betting Tips

Liverpool are the slight favourites to win the game but Football-Talk can get you enhanced odds of 5/1 on the Reds to win while you can get Tottenham to win at 8/1, plus you can win a £100 free bet bundle. But I fancy a 1-1 draw which is on offer at 13/2 and I also like the look for Sturridge to open the scoring at 4/1. If we combine those two bets in a scorecast, then we get very tempting odds of 28/1. Surely that’s got to be worth a couple of quid!?

Starting Townsend ahead of Lamela is a NO-NO situation. Liverpool will be attacking us right down the flanks, so our players have to stay compact in that areas especially on our right hand side. Our 2 fullbacks should not commit themselves too high up the pitch when they are not supporting the attack. If/when they are pushing up for an attack, our two holding midfielders should be ready to step in and cover them from behind just in case our attack breaks down. I prefer to use Lamela on the right wing because he is a player who hussles and tackles the opposition’s player to try to win back ball possession for us. Unlike Townsend, who is prone in giving away ball possession too easily and doesn’t really help much in defending. What we need to stop Liverpool is just to close down their 2 attacking players of Coutinho and Sterling from supplying the ball to their front man Sturridge. We also need to put a man mark on Sturridge and not to afford him any space to turn and shoot at us. To me, they play liked a 3-4-3 formation, so we need to keep a close watch on their wing play too, that means we cannot leave out Markovic and Moreno. COYS, if we can overcome all these, we will have a chance of taking all 3 points back to the lane.
