[Video Goals] Man Utd 3-1 Burnley: Smalling Nets Double To Send United Third

By on February 11, 2015

Chris Smalling was the unlikely hero as he scored a double to help Manchester United to a 3-1 victory over Burnley at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

Smalling replaced the injury Phil Jones in just the 5th minute and he put the Red Devils ahead with his first touch as he headed home following a knock back from Radamel Falcao.

Burnley levelled things up just six minutes later when Danny Ings headed home from close range but Smalling restored United’s advantage on the stroke of half-time when he nodded home Angel Di Maria’s cross in the 45th minute.

Burnley were pushing for another equaliser but the hosts sealed the three points when Robin van Persie scored from the penalty spot after Di Maria was brought down in the area.

The win sees United leapfrog Southampton into third after they were held to a 0-0 draw by West Ham.
