Liverpool vs Man City: Preview, Team News, Likely Line-Ups, Prediction & Betting
Liverpool entertain Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday. Here’s a preview with team news, line-ups, predicted score and betting tips for the game.
Liverpool will get back to Premier League action when they take on Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
The Reds crashed out of the Europa League in the worst possible fashion on Thursday after Dejan Lovren missed the vital spot kick during a 5-4 penalty shoot-out defeat to Besiktas after the tie had finished 1-1 on aggregate.
However, Brendan Rodgers will hope their exit from Europe proves to be a blessing in disguise as they can now concentrate their efforts on the Premier League and finishing in the top four this season.
The Merseysiders currently sit sixth in the table but can move level on points with fourth-placed Arsenal with a win ahead of the Gunners clash with Everton at the Emirates later on Sunday.
This is also a vital game for Manchester City as they’ll be looking to take advantage of Chelsea playing in the Capital One Cup final to close the gap on their title rivals to just two points with a win at Anfield.
City put in another disappointing performance in Europe in midweek after losing 2-1 at home to Barcelona so Manuel Pellegrini will be demanding a response tomorrow.
Team news
Liverpool are set to recall Philippe Coutinho after he was rested in midweek while Jordan Henderson is expected to shake-off a minor ankle injury to start in midfield.
Defender Mamadou Sakho has resumed training following a hip injury but this game may come a little too soon. Glen Johnson will be hoping to return to the squad after illness.
Steven Gerrard remains out with a hamstring injury so he’s on the sidelines along with Lucas Leiva and Jose Enrique.
Manchester City have a fully-fit squad to choose from and midfielder Yaya Toure is set to return to the starting eleven after missing the Barca game through suspension.
Pellegrini could also bring in Alexandre Kolarov and Fernandinho as he looks to freshen things up.
Likely Line-Ups
Predicted Score
Liverpool 1-1 Man City: Both sides will be disappointed with their displays in Europe in midweek but have plenty to play for in the league. Liverpool are always up for the big games at home but I can see City taking something away from Anfield tomorrow.
Betting Tips
Man City are the slight favourites to win the game but thanks to Football-Talk new customers can get enhanced odds of 6/1 on an away win and 7/1 on a home win, while you can also win £100 in free bets. Our predicted score of 1-1 is on offer at 6/1 while I also fancy Daniel Sturridge to open the scoring at odds of 11/2. If we combine those two bets in a score-cast then we get very tempting odds of 35/1. Surely that’s got to be worth a couple of quid!?
