Man Utd Ready To Pay €50m To Land Argentinean International
Manchester United are ready to pay the €50m required to trigger Nicolas Otamendi’s release clause in order to finally land the Valencia defender this summer
The January transfer window may be closed but that won’t stop the newspapers from speculating ahead of the summer so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Manchester United are linked with Nicolas Otamendi….
Manchester United are ready to pay the €50m required to trigger Nicolas Otamendi’s release clause in order to finally land the Valencia defender this summer, according to reports.
United boss Louis van Gaal is expected to bring in another centre-back at the end of the season after failing to land any of his reported targets during the January transfer window.
The Red Devils were strongly linked with a move for Otamendi in the winter and reports suggested they had held talks with the players agent about a potential move to Old Trafford before supposedly seeing a £25m offer rejected by Valencia.
The La Liga club made it clear they weren’t interested in selling the Argentinean international as they are no longer under any pressure to sell their star names after being taken over by billionaire Peter Lim.
However, it appears United are ready to renew their interest in Otamendi and bypass the negotiation stage as the Metro are citing reports coming out of Spain which claim that van Gaal is prepared to meet the 27-year-old’s €50m (£35.9m) release clause.
There is very little Valencia could do if United table that amount and it would then be down to the player to decide whether he wants to move to Old Trafford or remain at the Mestalla Stadium.

Otamendi is a strong, powerful centre-back and is exactly the type of dominant presence United have been lacking at the back this season, so he’d be an excellent signing if van Gaal can pull it off.
The 20-time Premier League champions are likely to have sizeable funds available to spend this summer, irrespective of whether they finish in the top four or not, and a central defender should certainly be a priority.
Many names are going to be linked over the coming weeks but Otamendi is an excellent option so it’s going to be interesting to see how this develops as we approach the opening of the summer window.
