Liverpool have been handed a major injury boost as the Anfield medical team believe Daniel Sturridge should be fit enough to take on Arsenal this weekend, according to the Mirror.

Sturridge suffered a hip injury during Liverpool’s disappointing 2-1 defeat to rivals Manchester United at Anfield on March 22nd.

The striker underwent tests after linking up with the England squad the following day but scans revealed he’d suffered a minor tear in his hip flexor muscle and was expected to be out for at least a month.

However, after returning to Merseyside for treatment last week, the Mirror claim that Liverpool medical staff have made their own assessment of the injury and believe the 25-year-old should be fit to face Arsenal on Saturday.

The newspaper suggests that boss Brendan Rodgers is pushing Sturridge to play through the pain and make himself available for the trip to the Emirates, even if he wont be 100% fit.

It would be a risky strategy given how delicate Sturridge’s fitness has been this season as the striker missed more than four months due to a troublesome thigh injury and the last thing Liverpool need is to aggravate his latest injury even further.

However, if Sturridge has made a swift recovery and is passed fit to face the Gunners, then it will give Liverpool a major boost as they face a crucial clash in their hunt for Champions League qualification.

The Merseysiders sit five points off fourth-placed Man Utd and six adrift of Arsenal so they desperately need a positive result in North London this weekend to get their top four hopes back on track and having Sturridge available would give them significant momentum heading into the game.
