Liverpool will face stiff competition for the signature of Miralem Pjanic after Manchester United registered their interest in the €50m-rated Roma midfielder
As the opening of the summer transfer window approaches, managers are working hard identifying targets and lining-up potential deals so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Man Utd have stepped up their interest in Miralem Pjanic…..
Liverpool will face stiff competition for the signature of Miralem Pjanic after Manchester United registered their interest in the €50m-rated Roma midfielder, according to reports.
Pjanic has been regularly linked with a move away from the Stadio Olimpico after impressing at the heart of Roma’s midfield following his move from Lyon in 2011, but the Bosnian international has so far remained loyal to Roma and signed a new deal last May that tied him to the club until 2018.
However, reports last month suggested that Pjanic was considering ending his four-year association with Rudi Garcia’s side amid speculation of a possible move to the Premier League.
Liverpool have long been linked with the 25-year-old and reports suggest that Brendan Rodgers made his interest clear when he held initial talks with Roma officials in February over a potential summer deal.
Rodgers is on the look-out for a replacement for departing skipper Steven Gerrard and Pjanic appears to have emerged as a key target for the Merseysiders in recent months.
However, it looks as though Liverpool will now face stiff competition as the Mirror are reporting today that Manchester United have now also contacted Roma to register their interest in signing the all-action midfielder.
Louis van Gaal is expected to be busy in the transfer market once again this summer with a central midfielder likely to be a priority and the newspaper suggests that Pjanic is now on the Dutchman’s radar after he went cold on a deal for team-mate Kevin Strootman due to his injury record.
Pjanic is due to meet with Roma officials next week to discuss his future but if the Serie A giants agree to sell, it looks like Liverpool and United will have to dig deep as it’s understood they will demand around €50m (£37m) for his signature this summer.

It remains to be seen whether the two Premier League clubs will be prepared to pay that kind of money. If they refuse to meet Roma’s asking price, then Pjanic may have to try and force his way out the club if he wants to make a move to England.
I personally think a move to Anfield would suit him best but it’s not clear whether Liverpool will have the money to fund a big-money deal, particularly if they miss out on the Champions League. United on the other hand have huge financial potential so perhaps they could be considered as favourites if the midfielder does leave Roma this summer.
