Manchester United are continuing to negotiate a deal for £15m-rated AS Monaco right-back Fabinho after seeing their opening £10m offer knocked back, according to the Daily Star.
Louis van Gaal is expected to bring in another right-back this summer and United have been linked with a whole host of top names in recent months.
The latest player to be tipped for a move to Old Trafford is Brazilian international Fabinho with the Express reporting last week that United had held formal talks over a potential £10m deal for the 21-year-old.
However, while the Daily Star claims that offer was rejected by Monaco, the newspaper suggests that United remain locked in negotiations with the Ligue 1 club over a deal for the young defender.
Fabinho is currently away on international duty with Brazil at the Copa America having only recently made a £4m permanent move to Monaco from Rio Ave following a successful two years on loan with the Principality club.
The Daily Star claim that Monaco are prepared to turn a quick profit on the full-back but only if their £15m valuation is met, so it looks like United are going to have to dig a little deeper if they want to sign the South American.
Right-back was a problem area for United last season as Rafael struggled for form and fitness forcing Antonio Valencia to fill the void at the back. The Ecuadorian deputised admirably but I don’t think there is any doubt the Red Devils need another option at right-back and Fabinho would be an exciting addition.
The Brazilian has been in excellent form for Monaco over the past 24 months with his adventurous displays catching the eye so I’m sure he’d prove to be a superb purchase if United could get a deal agreed.

The reported £15m asking price seems more than reasonable for a player of Fabinho’s quality and potential in today’s market, and he’s still got plenty of time to develop even further under the stewardship of van Gaal.
We’ll have to see how the negotiations go over the coming days but if United do end up signing another right-back this summer, they could do a lot worse than taking a chance on Fabinho.
