Dutch Star Claims He’s Ready To Make Man Utd Move
Jasper Cillessen claims he’s ready to make the step-up to play for Manchester United but insists he remains focussed on doing his best for current club Ajax
With the summer transfer window in full swing, managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads ahead of the new season so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Jasper Cillessen speaks out on a possible move to Man Utd….
Jasper Cillessen claims he’s ready to make the step-up to play for Manchester United but insists he remains focussed on doing his best for current club Ajax, according to the Express.
Cillessen has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer with the Daily Star reporting last month that the Dutch international has already agreed to join United if David De Gea completes his proposed move to Real Madrid.
Ajax boss Frank De Boer has previously admitted that although they’d love to keep hold of the goalkeeper, it will be difficult if United come knocking with a big offer.
“We want to keep him and he wants to stay but, if Manchester United come with a bag of money, it can be difficult.” De Boer is quoted as saying by the Express
Cillessen has now added fuel to the fire after claiming that he’s at a stage in his career where he could cope with playing for United, but the keeper insists he’s focussed on Ajax for now.
When asked if it would be difficult to join a big club like United, the player is quoted as saying by the Express:
“Five years ago, when I was playing for NEC it would have been, because NEC to United is a very big step.
“Right now I’m completely focused on Ajax.”
So it appears Cillessen believes he’s ready to play for United and I don’t think it’s any coincidence he’s made these comments shortly after Ajax were surprisingly knocked out of the Champions League following a qualifying defeat to Rapid Vienna last night.
Louis van Gaal recently signed Sergio Romero on a free transfer but I think the Argentinean international will be viewed as a replacement for Victor Valdes so the Dutch coach will still need a new No.1 if De Gea leaves, and Cillessen looks to be a prime target.
The 26-year-old has developed into a fine keeper during his time at Ajax and van Gaal knows him well from their time together with the national team so I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Cillessen is the man brought in to replace De Gea – when he does eventually leave.

We’ll have to wait and see whether that will be this summer or in 12 months time when his contract expires but I personally think we’ll see De Gea head back to Spain before the window closes and I’d then expect United to formalise their interest in Cillessen.
