Manchester United have been dealt a double injury blow with Morgan Schneiderlin and Wayne Rooney ruled out of Tuesday’s crucial Champions League clash at Wolfsburg.
Rooney missed Saturday’s 0-0 draw with West Ham due to an ankle injury that he picked up last week and it appears the United skipper has failed to recover in time to make the trip to Germany.
Schneiderlin on the other hand was forced off during Saturday’s stalemate at Old Trafford after suffering a hip problem against the Hammers and the French international has also been left back in Manchester to nurse the injury.
It means Louis van Gaal is without seven first team players as Rooney and Schneiderlin join Marcos Rojo, Ander Herrera, Phil Jones, Luke Shaw and Antonio Valencia on the sidelines for the Wolfsburg match.
There is some positive team news with Paddy McNair included in van Gaal’s 19-man squad despite being replaced at half-time on Saturday due to an ankle injury while youngsters Nick Powell and Guillermo Varela have also made the trip.
Here is the 19-man squad that has just set-off to Germany this morning, as confirmed on ManUtd.com…
Squad:
David De Gea, Sergio Romero; Paddy McNair, Chris Smalling, Guillermo Varela, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, Daley Blind, Matteo Darmian; Bastian Schweinsteiger, Michael Carrick, Sean Goss, Nick Powell, Ashley Young, Jesse Lingard, Andreas Pereira, Juan Mata; Memphis Depay, Marouane Fellaini, Anthony Martial.
United head into the game sitting one point adrift of Group B leaders Wolfsburg and with third-placed PSV Eindhoven just a single point further back, it’s still all to play for as the Red Devils look to secure qualification to the knockout stages of the Champions League.
