Arsenal Midfielder Offers Worrying Injury Update

Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla has offered an update on his knee injury and has suggested he could be facing four months on the sidelines, according to the Express.

Cazorla suffered the injury after clashing knees with Gary O’Neil in the early stages of the second half during our 1-1 draw with Norwich City last month.

The 31-year-old was sent to see renowned knee specialist Ramon Cugat who confirmed the midfielder had damaged knee ligaments and the decision was taken to undergo surgery.

Arsene Wenger initially claimed Cazorla would be facing around three months on the sidelines, however, the player has now suggested he could be out for even longer.

Speaking to Spanish radio station Cadena Cope, Cazorla is quoted by the Express as saying that the club have informed him he’s likely to be out for four months but insists he’ll work hard to get back on the pitch in three if possible.

“Arsenal have told me it will be between three and four months, which may be closer to four,”

“I am trying to take it well. These are the things that happen in football and I am trying to recover as soon as possible.

“I have to be ready mentally to work and hopefully I can shorten the recovery time as much as possible.

“I do not want to set a time but I want to play in three months. I do not want to extend it more if it is possible.

“I have already said that I will work hard, I want to make everything I can to play in March but we will see how it goes.

“We are not going to force it if is going to be bad. But my priority is to play in March.

“The club have told me to be calm and that when I return we will be in the finals (laughs). I hope so. The important thing is that the team do well and I recover as soon as possible.”

Cazorla’s loss is a huge blow as he’s been a key figure in Wenger’s starting eleven this season and has struck up an impressive partnership alongside Francis Coquelin.

However, with the Frenchman also out for three months with a knee injury, the boss has to find a new central midfield partnership to see us through the coming months.

Many feel we need to dip in to the January transfer market to fill the void, but until Arsene brings someone else in it looks like Mathieu Flamini is going to be the man to fill-in alongside Aaron Ramsey in the middle of the park.
