Arsenal Team News: Wenger Offers Injury Update Ahead Of Southampton Clash
Arsene Wenger has offered a team news update ahead of Arsenal’s Premier League clash with Southampton on Boxing Day. See the latest here…
Arsenal will look to keep the pressure on leaders Leicester City when they take on Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium on Boxing Day.
Ahead of the game, Arsene Wenger has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this morning and has given a team news and injury update.
Thankfully we haven’t suffered any fresh injury concerns following Monday night’s impressive 2-1 victory over Manchester City. However, the boss confirmed that none of our current injured players will be ready to make their comeback’s this weekend meaning Arsene will choose from the same squad that faced City.
Wenger revealed earlier this week that Alexis Sanchez had suffered a setback in his recovery from a hamstring injury that’s already kept him out for over three weeks and the Chilean international will remain on the sidelines until early January.
It means Alexis will miss Saturday’s trip to Southampton and is also expected to sit out the subsequent games against Bournemouth, Newcastle and Sunderland but he could be back for the trip to Anfield to face Liverpool on the 13th.
Mikel Arteta and Jack Wilshere are close to making their comebacks from long-term injuries but neither are going to be in contention for the trip to the South Coast on Boxing Day so they’ll join Danny Welbeck, Santi Cazorla, Tomas Rosicky and Francis Coquelin on the sidelines.
We head into the Southampton game sitting two points behind leaders Leicester City but with the Foxes facing a tough trip to Anfield, we have a great opportunity to go top with a win at St Mary’s this weekend.
