Player Talks-Up Move As Chelsea Hold Talks Over £30m Deal For 26-Goal Attacker

With the winter transfer window now open for business, manager’s are working hard trying to strengthen their squads ahead of the second half of the season. Today, Alex Teixeira welcomes interest from Chelsea….

Alex Teixeira has welcomed interest from Chelsea after the Blues opened talks with Shakhtar Donetsk over a £30m deal for the Brazilian attacker, according to the Express.

Teixeira is one of the most in-form forwards in world football having scored an incredible 26 goals in just 26 games for Shakhtar in all competitions this season, despite only being played as an attacking midfielder.

The 26-year-old’s impressive form has led to strong interest from Chelsea with the Express reporting last month that the player has already verbally agreed to move to Stamford Bridge this month.

The newspaper is now reporting today that Chelsea have opened formal negotiations with Shakhtar over a potential £30m deal while they are also believed to be in talks with Teixeira’s agent over a lucrative five-year contract.

Shakhtar boss Mircea Lucescu recently said he’ll do all he can to prevent Teixeira from leaving the club this month but it appears the attacker is hoping a deal can be agreed after admitting he’s ‘very happy’ with Chelsea’s interest and is looking to leave Ukraine in order to help him break in to the Brazilian national team.

When quizzed about Chelsea’s interest, Teixeira is quoted as saying by the Express:

“Chelsea? I’m very happy that they’re interested. On my part, I do everything to continue improving.”

“Shakhtar Donetsk are not very big in Brazil, and I think I may need to move on to stand out and earn a place in the squad. That’s my goal for 2016,”

We’ll have to wait and see whether Chelsea are able to get a deal agreed this month but I think Shakhtar will find it extremely difficult to hang on to Teixeira as the player is clearly keen on the move and £30m may be too tempting to turn down.

The defending Premier League champions have endured a disastrous season so far and sit 14th in the table following Saturday’s 2-2 draw with West Brom, so Teixeira would give interim boss Guus Hiddink another vital option in attack during the second half of the season.

Eden Hazard has failed to hit the heights of last season that saw him named as the PFA Player of the Year while Oscar is also struggling for consistent form with the duo managing just 3 league goals between them so far, so Teixeira would provide a much-needed goal threat if he was to move to Stamford Bridge.
