Arsenal Team News: Wenger Confirms Duo Return + Welbeck Latest
Arsene Wenger has offered a team news update ahead of Arsenal’s clash with Burnley and confirmed two key men are set to return + an update on Danny Welbeck.
Arsenal will look to book their place in the fifth round of the FA Cup when they entertain Burnley at the Emirates on Saturday afternoon.
Ahead of the game, Arsene Wenger has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this morning and has offered the latest team and injury news.
The boss was pleased to confirm that Francis Coquelin and Tomas Rosicky are back in contention for a starting spot after recovering from their respective injuries.
Coquelin returned to training two weeks ago after overcoming a knee injury which he sustained during our defeat at West Bromwich Albion in late November and the midfielder is now ready to make his comeback.
Rosicky is yet to feature this season due to a serious knee injury which he picked up back in June 2015 but the 35-year-old is also available again after a successful run-out with the under-21’s last week.
Wenger also gave the latest on Danny Welbeck’s situation after the attacker resumed full training earlier this week having finally overcome a knee injury which has plagued him since way back in April 2015.
The boss confirmed that Welbeck is still going to need more training and a run-out with the under-21’s before he’ll be considered available for selection for the first team squad.
The return of Coquelin, Rosicky and Welbeck means that only Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla aren’t training with the first team at present, so our injury situation has certainly eased considerably in recent weeks which will be a huge boost during the second half of the season.
Here is what Arsene is quoted as saying by reporter James Olly at his press conference this morning:
At Colney. Wenger: "Only Wilshere and Cazorla aren't training. Welbeck still needs training but Coquelin & Rosicky are back in contention."
