Midtjylland vs Man Utd Preview, Team News, Line-Up, Betting Tips & Predicted Score

Manchester United will look to secure a first leg advantage when they take on FC Midtjylland in the first leg of their Europa League last-32 tie tonight. 

United dropped in to the Europa League after failing to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League, finishing third behind Wolfsburg and PSV Eindhoven in the group stages.

It will be United’s first appearance in the competition since 2012 when they also found themselves falling in to Europe’s second tier tournament before crashing out to Athletic Bilbao in the last 16 stage.

Many fans wouldn’t lose too much sleep if United went out at a similar stage this time around so they can concentrate on securing a top four place in the Premier League.

However, Louis van Gaal may be tempted to throw everything at the Europa League as the winners secure qualification to the Champions League next season and they are heavy favourites to progress past Danish minnows Midtylland.

Team news

United will be without Wayne Rooney for at least a month after the skipper suffered knee ligament damage during Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Sunderland.

Matteo Darmian is also unavailable after dislocating his shoulder at the Stadium of Light so with Antonio Valencia, Phil Jones and Ashley Young all injured, Paddy McNair may start at right back.

Marouane Fellaini has been ruled out with a hamstring injury while Cameron Borthwick-Jackson has been left back in Manchester with illness so they join Bastian Schweinsteiger, Marcos Rojo,, Luke Shaw and Adnan Januzaj on the sidelines.

With so many first team players unavailable, van Gaal has been forced to call-up some of his youngsters with Donald Love, Will Keane, Regan Poole and James Weir are all included in the squad while  Joe Riley could make his debut at left-back.

As for Midtylland, they’ll be without midfielder Jakob Poulsen due to suspension while Johan Dahlin (knee) and Petter Andersson (knee) are out.

Midtylland 0-2 Man Utd: The Red Devils have been plagued by inconsistent form all season but despite their injury woes, surely even they can get a result at Midtylland? The Danish side have won just one of their last nine games in all competitions and their last competitive fixture was way back in December so they are going to be rusty. I fancy United to get a 2-0 win.
