Paul Merson Offers His Prediction Ahead Of Manchester United vs Everton

Paul Merson has offered his prediction ahead of Manchester United’s Premier League showdown with Everton on Saturday and he’s tipping the hosts to edge it at Old Trafford.

United went in to the international break high on confidence after beating rivals Manchester City 1-0 at the Etihad Stadium thanks to a first half winner from youngster Marcus Rashford two weeks ago.

That win saw the Red Devils move to within just one point of fourth-placed City so they can give their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League next season a major boost if they collect all three points on Sunday.

Former Arsenal winger Paul Merson believes if City fail to win at Bournemouth on Saturday then this will become an even more important game for United and he’s backing Louis van Gaal’s men to edge past an inconsistent Everton side this weekend.

Writing in his column for Sky Sports, Merson said:

If Man City don’t win on Saturday then this is a big game for Utd, but it depends what Everton side turn up – they are a real bag of revels.

We are at that stage of the season where teams like West Ham and Utd have to win to challenge for the top four. Draws are no good, so they need to have a go for it.

PAUL PREDICTS: 2-1

We’ll have to wait and see whether Merson’s prediction proves accurate but a 2-1 win would be an excellent result for United as it would keep them right in the mix for a top four finish this season.
