Man Utd Team News: van Gaal Confirms Triple Injury Blow But Midfielder Returns
Louis van Gaal has ruled two of his players out of Sunday’s Premier League clash with Bournemouth while he’s also given an update on Luke Shaw.
Manchester United will look to force their way in to the top four when they take on Bournemouth in their final Premier League game on Sunday.
Ahead of the game, boss Louis van Gaal spoke to the media at his pre-match press conference this afternoon and he’s given ManUtd.com the latest team and injury news.
Unfortunately the Dutchman confirmed a fresh injury blow with the news that Adnan Januzaj has been ruled out of Sunday’s game after suffering a knock in training shortly after featuring during the final stages of Tuesday night’s 3-2 defeat at West Ham.
In a further blow, Matteo Darmian will continue to miss out on Sunday due to the ankle injury that he suffered during the 1-0 win at Norwich City last weekend – although the Italian full-back has a chance to be fit for next weekend’s FA Cup final against Crystal Palace.
However, one man who won’t feature at Wembley is Luke Shaw with van Gaal confirming that the defender won’t be ready to make his comeback just yet as he continues to work on his fitness after eight months out with a double leg break.
Bastian Schweinsteiger remains out with a knee injury which is also expected to keep him out of the FA Cup final but there was better news on Ashley Young as he’s set to return to full training tomorrow.
van Gaal told the clubs website:
“Ashley is coming in, so he is restored of his injury and can train tomorrow (Saturday) with our squad. But it is one training session,”
“Unfortunately Januzaj has been injured in the training session, so he is out for Sunday. We have to wait and see for the final. The rest is like it was. Darmian is still out but can be in [for the final]. It is dependable on the progress. Schweinsteiger is out and Shaw is out.
“I have always said to Luke that he can play in the final to keep his motivation high, but now I cannot say that anymore because we are in the final. It is a pity because he cannot reach that level to play. He needs more time to play.”
United head in to the final game of the season trailing Man City by two points following the defeat at West Ham and with their Manchester rivals also boating a significant goal difference advantage, the only way United can finish in the top four is if they beat Bournemouth and City lose at Swansea.
