Liverpool Close-In On Record £45m Deal To Sign Man Utd Target
Liverpool are closing in on a record deal to sign Man Utd target Yacine Brahimi after agreeing to meet the £45m buyout clause written in to his Porto contract
The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Liverpool are linked with Man Utd target Yacine Brahimi….
Liverpool are closing in on a club record deal to sign Manchester United target Yacine Brahimi after agreeing to meet the £45m buyout clause written in to his Porto contract, according to the Express.
Brahimi joined Porto from Granada in 2014 and has been in impressive form in Portugal over the past two seasons with the Algerian international netting 10 goals and providing 11 assists in his 49 appearances in all competitions this campaign alone.
It appears his potential has caught the eye of some top Premier League clubs with the Express claiming that both Liverpool and Manchester United have been showing a keen interest in signing the winger this summer.
However, it looks like the Merseysiders have now stolen a march on their rivals as the newspaper is citing reports coming out of Portugal that claim Liverpool have now agreed to meet the £45m buyout clause written in to Brahimi’s contract.
If the Reds manage to get the proposed deal over the line, then it would represent a club record transfer fee as it would easily beat the £35m they paid to sign Andy Carroll from Newcastle back in 2011.
The report – which originates from Portuguese outlet A Bola – suggests that investment consortium Doyen Sports own 50% of Brahimi’s economic rights but they are believed to be happy to sell the 26-year-old as long as the £45m clause is met.
Brahimi is predominantly a left-sided winger but he’s capable of playing anywhere across the attacking three positions so he’d certainly give Jurgen Klopp plenty of options in the final third if he does end up moving to Anfield.
The former Rennes attacker would become Liverpool’s forth major signing of the summer following the arrivals of defender Joel Matip, midfielder Marko Grujic and goalkeeper Loris Karius – who arrived from Mainz earlier this week.

However, as yet there is no official confirmation of any agreement and this remains paper-talk for now, so there is still time for the likes of Man Utd to try and hijack Liverpool’s proposed deal – although it remains to be seen whether Jose Mourinho will pursue Brahimi once he seals his expected move to United.
