The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Liverpool join the chase for N’Golo Kante….
Liverpool have joined the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United in the race to sign N’Golo Kante with the £22m-rated midfielder set to leave Leicester City this summer, according to the Daily Star.
Kante has just come off the back of an outstanding debut season in England with his tireless performances helping Leicester to a shock Premier League title win following his move from Caen last summer.
The 25-year-old’s sensational form in the middle of the park has attracted interest from all the top Premier League clubs with the Daily Star claiming that Arsenal and Manchester United are leading the likes of Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester City in the race for the midfielder’s signature.
Arsenal have recently signed Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka but the reports suggest Arsene Wenger remains keen on taking Kante to the Emirates and the Arsenal boss fuelled the speculation after heaping praise on his compatriot last week.
New Man Utd boss Jose Mourinho is expected to be busy in the transfer market rebuilding the squad he inherited from Louis van Gaal and the Star suggest that he sees Kante as a modern-day version of Claude Makelele – who played a key role in Chelsea winning back-to-back titles during Mourinho’s first spell at Stamford Bridge.
However, it looks like the duo will now face even greater competition for Kante’s signature as the newspaper claims that Liverpool have now joined the race with Jurgen Klopp eager to lure the French international to Anfield.
The German coach has already started his rebuilding job with three new signings this summer but it would be a major coup for the Merseysiders if they were able to land Kante given the level of interest being shown.
Leicester are understandably desperate to keep hold of the 25-year-old but appreciate it’s going to be extremely difficult as he has a £22m buyout clause [source: Daily Star] and the Foxes simply can’t compete with the kind of wages being put forward by their rivals.
Therefore, it looks like Kante is going to have his pick of clubs this summer and no doubt competition for his signature is only going to increase even further with major European clubs joining the race if he continues to impress at Euro 2016 over the coming weeks.
