Arsenal are lining up a £27m bid for Mario Gotze as Arsene Wenger looks to hijack Liverpool’s attempts to sign the Bayern Munich playmaker this summer
The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are linked with Mario Gotze…
Arsenal are lining up a £27m bid for Mario Gotze as Arsene Wenger looks to hijack Liverpool’s attempts to sign the Bayern Munich playmaker this summer, according to the Sun.
Gotze’s future has been a hot topic for discussion already this summer with the German international initially expected to leave Munich after struggling to establish himself as a first team regular.
The 24-year-old fell out-of-favour under Pep Guardiola and managed to start just 14 games throughout the course of last season and with just one year remaining on his contract, it led to strong reports he could be reunited with Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.
The Sun claim that the German coach is desperate to lure Gotze to Anfield this summer but the attacker appeared to rule out a move after declaring last month that he wanted to remain at Bayern and fight for his place under new boss Carlo Ancelotti.
However, the newspaper suggests that Gotze has no future at Munich and the Bundesliga champions are believed to be determined to get his £110,000-a-week wages off the books this summer.
This is likely to alert Liverpool as they will no doubt be keen to renew their interest, however, the Sun claim that Arsenal will now rival the Merseysiders for Gotze’s signature with the Gunners lining-up a £27m bid for the playmaker.
Wenger has already snapped-up midfielder Granit Xhaka but the Frenchman is expected to bring in another attacker with Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain tipped to leave and it appears Arsenal have now turned their attention to Gotze after seemingly missing out on Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
The North Londoners have been strongly linked with the Armenian international but the Mirror reported today that Borussia Dortmund are refusing to sell this summer while the attackers agent claims he has his heart set on joining Man Utd.
So it appears Wenger is now eyeing a move for Gotze instead and if he ends up joining Arsenal, the German star will form a devastating attack alongside compatriot Mesut Ozil and Chilean super-star Alexis Sanchez at the Emirates.
However, I’m sure Liverpool won’t give up without a fight as Gotze would be a sensational signing for any club this summer as he’s a top class international who’s capable of playing anywhere in attack or even up front as a ‘false 9’.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but I have a feeling we’ll see Gotze leave Bayern this summer and I would love to see him come to the Premier League as he’d be a great asset for the English game.
