Transfer News: Liverpool Ready To Move For £10.5m Winger & Eye Serie A Playmaker
Transfer news: Liverpool are ready to make their move for a £10.5m winger while they are also linked with a move for a Serie A playmaker.
The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Liverpool are linked with a move for Andros Townsend and are showing an interest in Napoli playmaker Marek Hamsik….
Liverpool eye Hamsik
First up and the Mirror are carrying a report claiming that Liverpool are interested in signing Napoli’s Marek Hamsik as Jurgen Klopp continues to put his own stamp on the squad at Anfield.
Hamsik has been with Napoli since joining the club in 2007 and has developed in to one of the most dangerous playmakers in Italy over the last nine years having scored 98 goals and providing 93 assists in his 402 appearances so far.
The 28-year-old has constantly been linked with a move to the Premier League in recent transfer windows and the speculation resurfaced after he scored a stunning effort during Slovakia’s 2-1 win over Russia at Euro 2016 last week.
The latest club to be linked is Liverpool with the Mirror carrying a report suggesting the Klopp is now considering a swoop for the attacker after being impressed by his performances at Euro 2016.
The Reds boss has already brought in three new faces this summer with goalkeeper Loris Karius joining midfielder Marko Grujic and defender Joel Matip but the German coach is expected to strengthen his attack and it appears Hamsik is on his radar.
Klopp to bid for Townsend
Next up and the Mirror are also reporting that Liverpool are ready to make a move to sign Newcastle United winger Andros Townsend but could face competition from Manchester City.
The 24-year-old only moved to St James Park during the January transfer window but is expected to be one of several international’s who will leave the club following their relegation to the Championship.
Townsend scored 4 goals and provided 2 assists in 13 appearances for Newcastle during the second half of last season which earned him a place in Roy Hodgson’s provisional 26-man England squad ahead of Euro 2016, but he was eventually cut from the final 23 that was taken to France.
The Mirror claim that Liverpool are lining-up a move for the winger and could offer him an immediate return to the Premier League by triggering his £10.5m buyout clause, but only if Klopp can’t land his prime targets.
However, the Reds aren’t the only club understood to be keen as the newspaper says that Manchester City, Southampton and West Ham are among those also in the running for his signature.
Townsend is predominantly played as a right-winger but can also play on the left side of attack if required so he’d give Klopp some options in the final third if he does end up moving to Anfield.
But any potential deal is a long way off as Liverpool are likely to push hard for other targets before considering any move for the former Tottenham man so Townsend is expected to bide his time and see how things play out over the coming weeks before making any decision over his future.

I actually think Townsend would be a solid signing for a team like Liverpool as he has a lot of quality and is excellent value at just £10.5m, but we’ll have to wait and see if Klopp decides to formalise his interest this summer.
