Arsenal Favourites Ahead Of Liverpool To Sign Unsettled German Attacker

Arsenal are leading the race ahead of the likes of Liverpool to sign out-of-favour Bayern Munich playmaker Mario Gotze this summer, according to reports.

The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, more on the future of Mario Gotze…

Arsenal are leading the race ahead of the likes of Liverpool to sign out-of-favour Bayern Munich playmaker Mario Gotze this summer, according to the Daily Star.

Gotze’s future has been the subject of much speculation in recent months with the German international initially expected to leave Bayern after struggling to establish himself as a first team regular following his controversial move from Borussia Dortmund.

The 24-year-old fell badly out-of-favour under Pep Guardiola last term after making just 14 starts under the Spaniard and was left on the bench for key Bundesliga and Champions League matches.

It led to reports of a potential reunion with Jurgen Klopp at Anfield as the Daily Star reported last month that Gotze had held talks with the former Dortmund boss about a move to Liverpool this summer.

Gotze then seemed to suggest he was willing to remain at the Allianz Arena and fight for his place under new boss Carlo Ancelotti only for Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge to hint that the attacker might be better off leaving in search of regular first team football.

“He knows what the club thinks and what the new coach thinks. Mario has to evaluate for himself whether he wants to play constantly.” Rummenigge is quoted as saying by the Daily Star

Liverpool remain in the hunt for the German World Cup winner but it looks as though the Merseysiders are now going to face stiff competition as the Daily Star are citing reports coming from Spain that claim Arsenal are now favourites to sign Gotze this summer.

And it looks like a deal is there to be done as the newspaper says that Bayern are so desperate to sell Gotze that they are considering leaving him out of their Champions League squad to force him out the door – although this is something the Bundesliga champions have strongly denied.

Arsene Wenger is reportedly on the market for another attacker as doubts continue over the future of Theo Walcott and it looks like the Gunners boss has now turned his attention to Gotze after being linked with the likes of Riyad Mahrez and Henrikh Mkhitaryan in recent weeks.

The German star is capable of playing across the attacking three positions so he could form a devastating attack alongside compatriot Mesut Ozil and Chilean super-star Alexis Sanchez if he does end up moving to the Emirates.

I’m sure Liverpool won’t give up without a fight as Klopp would love to be reunited with Gotze having worked with him during their time at Dortmund and the playmaker should be available at a reasonable rate as he’s got just one year remaining on his contract.

Let’s wait and see how things develop over the coming weeks but I have a feeling we’ll see Gotze leave Bayern this summer and I’d love to see him come to the Premier League.
