Liverpool Installed As Surprise Favourites To Sign Man Utd Attacker

The opening of the summer transfer window is almost upon us so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Liverpool are linked with Memphis Depay….
Liverpool have been installed as the surprise favourites to sign out-of-favour Manchester United attacker Memphis Depay this summer, according to the Mirror.
Depay moved to Old Trafford in a £25m deal from Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven last summer but endured a difficult debut season at the club having scored just 2 Premier League goals during his 29 appearances.
The Dutch international usually saved his best form for Europe but fell badly out-of-favour under then-boss Louis van Gaal during the second half of the season and made just 4 league starts after the turn of the year.
It’s led to speculation that Depay could become one of the first casualties under new boss Jose Mourinho as the Portuguese coach looks to build a squad capable of pushing for the title next season.
And it appears there is a surprise club in the running for his signature if the 22-year-old does leave United as the Mirror are reporting that leading bookmaker Ladbrokes have slashed their odds on Depay joining Liverpool to just 7/4.
The likes of Leicester and Stoke are priced at 10/1 while big-hitters like Arsenal (14/1) and Chelsea (16/1) even further out leaving Liverpool as the clear favourites to be Depay’s next destination.
The Merseysiders were strongly linked with the attacker when he left PSV last summer and were among the clubs who missed out when he opted for a move to Old Trafford but it appears the bookies think the Reds will renew their interest this summer.
I’d be hugely surprised if there was anything in this story as Jurgen Klopp has just splashed out over £30m on Sadio Mane from Southampton so he isn’t in desperate need of another attacker right now, which makes Ladbrokes odds even more curious.

Depay has claimed he’s looking forward to resurrecting his career under Mourinho but if he does end up making a shock switch to Anfield this summer he’ll become the first player in over 50 years to move from United to Liverpool since Phil Chisnall made the move in 1964.
