Chelsea have tabled an opening bid worth £42m for Paris Saint-Germain hitman Edinson Cavani as Antonio Conte looks to further strengthen his attacking options this summer, according to Le10 Sport via the Metro.
New Blues boss Conte has already splashed out on Michy Batshuayi with the Belgian international joining from Marseille but with Alexandre Pato and Radamel Falcao both left the club following unsuccessful loan spells, the Italian tactician needs another striker and it appears Cavani is on his radar.
The Uruguayan international joined PSG from Napoli in 2013 and while he’s continue to prove himself as one of the best forward’s in Europe with 81 goals in 143 games for the French giants, there have been constant rumours suggesting that he’s unsettled in Ligue 1.
Cavani has been forced to play out wide for much of his three-year spell at the Parc des Princes with Zlatan Ibrahimovic preferred in the central striking role and the Metro claim the 29-year-old is now open to the idea of making a fresh start this summer.
Chelsea have long been linked with a move for Cavani and it looks as though they’ve now formalised their interest as the newspaper cites reports coming from French outlet Le10 Sport that says the Blues have tabled an opening offer worth £42m.
However, Roman Abramovich may have to be prepared to dig a little deeper as the report indicates that PSG are expected to reject Chelsea’s offer and demand a fee closer to £67m for Cavani’s signature this summer.
We’ll have to wait and see whether Chelsea will be prepared to pay that kind of money for a player approaching his 30th birthday but Cavani would be a sensational signing if the West Londoners could pull it off.

The former Napoli hitman is a proven striker and his arrival would give Conte three top class options up front – and they’ll be needed as the Italian is expected to deploy his favoured 3-5-2 formation at Stamford Bridge this season.
