Diego Costa scored a late winner to secure Chelsea a 2-1 victory over West Ham at Stamford Bridge on Monday night to give Antonio Conte a winning start to life in the Premier League.
The Blues opened the scoring from the spot in the 47th minute after Azpilucueta was fouled by Antonio in the area. Hazard stepped up and smashed home the resulting penalty for 1-0.
West Ham levelled things up in the 77th minute when James Collins lashed home a loose ball following a corner to make it 1-1 with 15 minutes left.
Then came the night’s controversial moment as Costa was extremely fortunate not to be shown a second yellow card following a high foul on Hammers keeper Adrian.
Predictably, the Spanish international turned out to be the match-winner as Costa fired in to the bottom corner from 20 yards in the 89th minute to win it for Chelsea.
