Chelsea Suffer Major Injury Blow Ahead Of Hull Clash

Chelsea have been handed a major injury blow after a key man failed a late fitness test ahead of the Blues trip to Hull City on Saturday afternoon

Chelsea have been handed a major injury blow after John Terry failed a late fitness test ahead of the Blues trip to Hull City on Saturday afternoon, according to the Times.

Terry has been on the sidelines since suffering ankle ligament damage during the final stages of Chelsea’s 2-2 draw at Swansea City earlier this month and has been forced to miss the west Londoners last three matches.

The 34-year-old hoped to make his comeback against Arsenal last weekend but suffered a minor setback which saw him miss the trip to the Emirates as Antonio Conte’s side were beaten 3-0 by their London rivals.

It looked as though Chelsea had been handed a major boost as the Mirror reported earlier this week that Terry was finally expected to return to the squad for tomorrow’s game against Hull.

However, it appears those reports were wide of the mark as the Times are now reporting today that Terry has in fact been ruled out of the trip to the KCOM Stadium after failing a fitness test on Thursday.

Conte is due to hold his press conference this afternoon and the Blues boss should offer an update on Terry’s availability but it would be a huge blow if the Chelsea captain was once again ruled out this weekend.

The Stamford Bridge club have sorely missed their skipper in recent weeks with his absence clearly felt during defeats to Arsenal and Liverpool so I’m sure Conte will be desperate to have Terry available as soon as possible.

If the long-serving defender is ruled out, it means Conte will have little choice but to pick one of Gary Cahill or Branislav Ivanovic to play alongside David Luiz this weekend and both players have been in poor form of late.
