Liverpool have been hit by a devastating injury blow with the news that Danny Ings has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a new knee injury, according to the Telegraph.

Ings only joined Liverpool from Burnley 16 months ago and missed the majority of his debut season at Anfield after damaging a cruciate ligament in his left knee back in October 2015.

The striker has endured a long road back to fitness and after playing for the under-23’s during the early weeks of the new campaign, Ings finally made his first team return with an appearance during Liverpool’s EFL Cup win over Tottenham last week.

However, the Telegraph are one of several newspapers who are reporting today that Ings picked up a new knee injury during his cameo appearance against Spurs and is now set for another extended spell on the sidelines.

The report claims that Ings has damaged cartilage in his right knee and is currently in London seeing specialist Andy Williams ahead of an operation which is expected to keep the striker out for seven months, ending his season.

Understandably, Ings is understood to be ‘distraught’ by this latest setback as he was getting closer and closer to being fully fit and on the verge of breaking back in to Jurgen Klopp’s first team plans.

Now, the 24-year-old must prepare himself for another long spell on the treatment table with his rehabilitation set to last several months with his ultimate aim of getting himself fit ahead of the 2017/18 campaign.
