Man Utd Team News: Mourinho Confirms Fresh Injury Blow Ahead Of Leicester

Manchester United will be looking to close in on the top four in the Premier League table when they take on Leicester City at the King Power on Sunday afternoon.

Ahead of the game, Jose Mourinho has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this afternoon and he’s given ManUtd.com a team news and injury update.

The United boss declared he had a fully-fit squad to choose from last week but unfortunately Mourinho has now confirmed that Phil Jones has been ruled out of this weekend’s trip to take on the defending Premier League champions.

Jones was forced off during the second half of United’s disappointing goalless draw against Hull City at Old Trafford on Wednesday night after suffering a foot injury.

Thankfully the problem isn’t thought to be too serious with the centre-back only suffering bruising but Mourinho has confirmed that it’s enough to keep Jones out of Sunday’s trip to the King Power Stadium.

Otherwise, the United squad is in excellent shape and Mourinho will have virtually a full strength set of players to choose from against Leicester this weekend.

When asked for a team news update, Mourinho told the clubs website:

“Only Phil Jones is not in the condition to play.”

The loss of Jones will come as a blow as he’s been in excellent form these past few months since returning to full fitness but the good news is that Eric Bailly is back in contention after missing four games last month while away at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Chris Smalling is also fit and available for selection along with the likes of Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind so Mourinho still has plenty of options to choose from in the middle of defence this weekend.
