Arsenal will be desperate to bounce back from the Bayern Munich humiliation when we take on Sutton at Gander Green Lane in the fifth round of the FA Cup this evening.
The FA Cup is now our only realistic hope of silverware this season as we’re on the verge of elimination from the Champions League following our thrashing in Munich last week while we’re ten points off the pace in the Premier League.
Last night’s quarter final draw saw the winner of tonight’s tie pitted against conference side Lincoln City at home so we’ve got the perfect chance to progress to the semi final stages.
However, these games present the ultimate banana skin as it would be easy for the players to think they just need to turn up to win but make no mistake, Sutton won’t make it easy on their artificial pitch tonight.
The non-league side have already knocked out Wimbledon and Leeds en route to the fifth round so they’ll be eyeing a sensational upset tonight at their 5,000 capacity ground.
Team news
Laurent Koscielny is out of the game after picking up a hamstring injury against Bayern so he joins Aaron Ramsey and Santi Cazorla on the sidelines.
Lucas Perez is also expected to miss out with a hamstring problem while Danny Welbeck confirmed he won’t be risked on the 3G pitch after playing for the U23’s yesterday.
Wenger is expected to make several changes but I still think we’ll see a strong side with the likes of Nacho Monreal, Rob Holding, Gabriel, Mohamed Elneny, Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud likely to be involved.
Youngsters Jeff Reine-Adelaide and Ainsley Maitland-Niles are also expected to be named in the squad but the likes of Mesut Ozil, Hector Bellerin and Alexis Sanchez should be rested.
As for Sutton, Craig Eastmond and Roarie Deacon will be looking to impress against their former club having both spent time at Arsenal.

Sutton 0-4 Arsenal: Obviously everyone is expecting Arsenal to win and it would probably be the greatest shock in the history of football if we lost. The biggest concern is probably the pitch but the modern 3G pitches are excellent these days so I’m hoping it won’t be too much of an issue. As long as we focus on the job at hand and put in a professional display, then it should be a comfortable win.
