Serie A Star Confirms He’d Join Chelsea But Favours Man Utd Move

Atalanta midfielder Franck Kessie has admitted he wouldn’t be able to turn down a move to Chelsea but ‘dreams’ of joining Manchester United

The January transfer window is now closed but we can still look at deals that failed to get across the line and those being lined-up for the summer. Today, Franck Kessie wants to join Man Utd….

Atalanta midfielder Franck Kessie has admitted he wouldn’t be able to turn down a move to Chelsea but ‘dreams’ of joining Manchester United, according to the Evening Standard.

Kessie joined Atalanta in 2015 and after enjoying a year on loan at Cesena, he’s developed in to one of the best midfielders in Italian football this season having established himself as a key part of Gian Peiro Gasperini’s starting eleven.

Despite being used as a defensive midfielder, the 20-year-old has scored an impressive 7 goals and provided 2 assists in his 21 appearances so far to help Atalanta secure their current fifth-placed position in the Serie A table.

Kessie’s form has attracted interest from the Premier League with his agent, George Atangana, quoted by the Mirror as saying earlier this month that Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool have all registered their interest in signing the player this summer.

However, it looks as though Kessie has his eye on two clubs in particular with the Ivory Coast international admitting that he couldn’t turn down the chance to join Chelsea but his ultimate dream is to join Man Utd.

The youngster is quoted as saying by the Evening Standard:

“I like the Premier League and in particular Manchester United, the club I dream of playing for,”

“[Chelsea] is also a big club, nobody would turn them down, but I dream of United.”

Chelsea were strongly linked with a move for Kessie during the January transfer window with the Daily Star reporting that the Premier League leaders saw an opening £27m offer rejected.

The Blues were seemingly desperate to get a deal wrapped-up last month as they knew competition would be fierce this summer but Atalanta held firm as the chances are they’ll be able to demand a far higher transfer fee during the summer window.

Kessie is a powerful holding midfielder so he has the potential to form a rock solid partnership alongside N’Golo Kante if he ends up making a move to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.

However, the player clearly has a soft spot for United and with Jose Mourinho needing to bring in a long-term replacement for Michael Carrick, Kessie could be the ideal man for the job if the Red Devils could get a deal agreed with Atalanta.
