Infographic: Which fans went the extra mile in the Champions League?

This infographic looks as which fans travelled the most and went the extra mile to support their team during the 2016/17 Champions League campaign.

The 2016/17 season is now over and it was a thrilling climax as Real Madrid retained the Champions League trophy with a 4-1 victory over Juventus in Cardiff at the weekend.

It’s hard to argue that Cristiano Ronaldo’s Madrid aren’t worthy winners on the pitch as they are an excellent team but which fans deserve a medal off the pitch?

It’s no secret that die-hard football fans are among the most well-travelled people in the world as they are willing to go to the ends of the earth just to support their beloved team.

The guys at Global Luggage have conducted a fascinating study to find out which fans travelled the most and went the extra mile to support their team during the 2016/17 Champions League campaign.

The infographic shows the miles fans of each club flew for each individual game as well as the total miles accumulated throughout the tournament.

As you can see, Benfica fans came out on top as they flew 13,082 miles to support their team with a long-haul trip to Dynamo Kiev clocking up a mammoth 4,170 miles alone.

The Madrid teams came in second and third with 11,678 and 10,600 miles respectively while Russian outfit CSKA Moscow unsurprisingly made the top four after racking up 8,826 despite playing just three games!

Losing finalists Juventus came in seventh in the study with their fans flying 7,084 miles en route to the final – which was almost 3,000 less than eventual winners Madrid.

There were no English sides featured in the top 7 but Leicester City did rack-up just over 7,000 miles while Tottenham fans flew just over 5,000 after crashing out in the group stages.
