Chelsea & Man Utd Submit Offers For £70m-Rated South American Attacker
Chelsea and Manchester United have put forward ‘serious’ offers for James Rodriguez as the attacker looks to secure a move away from Real Madrid this summer
Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, more on the future of James Rodriguez….
Chelsea and Manchester United have put forward ‘serious’ offers for James Rodriguez as the attacker looks to secure a move away from Real Madrid this summer, according to a report in the Express.
Rodriguez joined Madrid from Monaco after starring at the 2014 World Cup finals but the attacker has struggled to nail down a regular first team place at the Bernabeu in recent years.
The Colombian international started just 13 league games last season and his exit from the club was all-but confirmed after Rodriguez was axed from Zinedine Zidane’s squad for the Champions League final win over Juventus.
The 25-year-old is expected to push for a move in search of regular action and understandably there has reportedly been plenty of interest being shown in the talented South American.
A number of Premier League clubs have been credited with an interest in the media but it looks like two of those have now formalised their intentions in the form of official offers.
That’s because the Express are citing a report from Spanish outlet Diario Madrista that claims Chelsea and Man Utd have put forward ‘serious’ bids to sign Rodriguez this summer.
Antonio Conte knows he needs to further strengthen his squad ahead of Chelsea’s return to the Champions League and Rodriguez would offer another top class option in attack if the champions were successful with their pursuit.
However, it looks like Chelsea have some work to do as the newspaper report indicates that Rodriguez favours a move to United and already has a verbal agreement in place with the Manchester giants.
Jose Mourinho needs attacking reinforcements after United only registered 54 goals last season and the Express claim that Rodriguez will be handed the No.10 shirt once Wayne Rooney leaves Old Trafford.
The report adds that agent Jorge Mendes is helping to push through the deal but United will have to dig deep to sign the attacker as Madrid value Rodriguez at around £70m.
United obviously have vast financial resources so they can afford such a fee and I think Rodriguez would be an excellent addition as he’s capable of playing anywhere across the attacking positions.

We’ll have to see how things develop over the coming days but I’d love to see Rodriguez plying his trade in England as he has the to be a real star if he’s given a more prominent role at a new team.
