Tottenham Refuse To Meet Demands Of £40m Arsenal & Man Utd Target
Arsenal and Man Utd could pounce as Tottenham are refusing to meet the wage demands of £40m-rated Everton midfielder Ross Barkley
Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, the latest on Ross Barkley’s future…
Tottenham are refusing to meet Ross Barkley’s wage demands as the £40m-rated midfielder continues to look for a way out of Everton this summer, according to the Mirror.
Barkley has been with Everton his entire career after coming through the clubs youth system but his future at Goodison Park is in serious doubt as he’s made it clear he won’t be signing a new contract.
With just one year left on his current deal, Toffees boss Ronald Koeman has confirmed the midfielder will leave the club this summer as long as someone pays their asking price.
The Daily Star reported over the weekend that Tottenham were leading the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United in the race to sign the talented England international.
Arsene Wenger is on the look out for further reinforcements as he looks to build a side capable of breaking back in to the top four this season and Barkley has been touted as a potential replacement for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – who’s being linked with a move away from the Emirates.
Jose Mourinho is also hoping to bring in more top class players this summer ahead of United’s return to the Champions League and it appears Barkley is also on the Portuguese coaches radar.
However, Spurs are the front-runners as the Mirror claim the north Londoners are set to step-up their interest in the midfielder once they return to England from their pre-season tour of the United States.
The newspaper says Mauricio Pochettino is keen to lure Barkley to White Hart Lane as he looks to make his first signing of the summer and the player is understood to be desperate to join Tottenham.
But there are still several issues to be resolved as the Mirror suggests that Daniel Levy is reluctant to meet Everton’s £40m asking price while the Tottenham supremo is also refusing to meet Barkley’s wage demands of well over £100,000-a-week.
Spurs have a strict wage structure in place and the report says they aren’t prepared to offer the 23-year-old a deal that would see him join Harry Kane, Hugo Lloris and Christian Eriksen as one of the clubs top earners.
This could open the door for Arsenal or Man Utd to step-up their interest in Barkley during the closing weeks of the transfer window as both clubs are able to offer much higher wages than their rivals.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but I think Barkley would be an excellent signing for any of the top Premier League clubs as he has the potential to develop in to a real star.
