Quarterly Round Up: Who Will Win The Premier League This Season
After the first quarter of the year it’s anyone’s guess who you should put your money on to become the Champions. Let’s take a look at the front runners.
It only seems like yesterday that I was scouring betting sites in the UK for the best odds on the game in the third tier of Jamaican football, longing for my beloved Premier League to return, and now we are already 9 games in and a quarter of the way through the season. Each year a couple of friends and I like to have a flutter on some season long bets such as Golden Boot winner, who will be relegated and who will win the league. I enjoy betting like this because you get plenty of time to cover your bets, and the worst that I usually do is break even.
I was convinced at the start of this year that the title race would be between Chelsea and Manchester City and that is where I placed my money. After the first quarter of the year however, it is anyone’s guess who you should be putting your money on to become the Champions. Let’s take a look at the front runners.
Manchester City
Given Guardiola’s continued investment in his side and having now had a year under his belt with the Citizens to push forward his philosophy, Man City are rightfully sitting on top of the table. What has been most impressive about City this season is their ruthlessness and the way in which they are destroying teams week in – week out. Kevin de Bruyne looks in absolutely staggering form this year but only picking him out would do the rest of the team a huge disservice. This league looks like coming down to which team will beat their rivals at the top and City have already overcome Chelsea and Liverpool. City are hot favorites if they keep this form up, something they failed to do last year.
Most thought that this year would be a straight toss-up between the two Manchester sides and after Spurs struggled to shake off their Wembley hoodoo in the opening games of the season, this seemed to be pretty accurate. Spurs however have put together a solid run of results and, buoyed by their impressive Champions League exploits, look set to continue in the same vein. Spurs vanquished Liverpool in style last week but with Manchester United, Real Madrid and Arsenal coming up plus Harry Kane being out of action, the next few weeks will certainly show whether Spurs are ready for the challenge.
Manchester United
The Red Devils look scintillating this year and with the exception of a shock loss to newly-promoted Huddersfield, United look on course to challenge for this year’s title. Mourinho has a great record of winning leagues in his second season at a club and with Martial, Rashford and Lukaku all firing, Ibrahimovic to return and Pogba finally paying off some of that transfer fee, expect United to push right until the end. United have the perfect blend of pace, experience, defensive capabilities and goal threats, as well as depth of their squad.
One thing is for sure, this year is going to be one of the tightest yet and the bookmakers know it, the perfect time to put your money where your mouth is!
