Liverpool will be looking to book their place in the knockout stages of the Champions League when they take on Sevilla tonight.

The Reds head in to the game off the back of Saturday’s comfortable 3-0 victory over Southampton which saw the Merseysiders close the gap on fourth-placed Tottenham to just one point.

However, thoughts must quickly turn to Champions League matters as Liverpool go in search of a win tonight that would book their place in the knockout stages of the competition.

Jurgen Klopp’s side currently sit top of Group E – one point above Sevilla and three ahead of Spartak Moscow – so they can secure safe passage to the next phase if they bring all three points back from Spain.

But that won’t be easy against a dangerous Sevilla outfit who’ve won four of their last five games and haven’t lost at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium since Juventus beat them last year.

Team news

Liverpool could welcome Adam Lallana back in to the squad for the first time this season as he’s travelled to Spain having recently recovered from a serious thigh injury.

Defender Joel Matip was not included in the squad that flew out to Sevilla yesterday as he’s been left back at Melwood to nurse a groin injury.

Danny Ings could be on the bench after travelling to Spain while the likes of James Milner, Joe Gomez, Daniel Sturridge, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Emre Can are all pushing for recalls.

As for Sevilla, they’ll be without Daniel Carrico and Nicolas Pareja due to injury while Sebastien Corchia is also a doubt after being forced off against Celta Vigo at the weekend.

Sevilla 1-2 Liverpool: The hosts earned an impressive 2-2 draw at Anfield in the reverse fixture and they’ve won three of their previous four home games against English opposition, so Liverpool won’t be taking this game lightly. However, I think the Reds will have too much firepower for Sevilla to handle so am backing Klopp’s side to nick a 2-1 win.
