The January transfer window in closed so it’s time to look at those deals that didn’t get over the line and those being lined-up for the summer. Today, Real Madrid have turned their attention to Robert Lewandowski…
Real Madrid are ready to battle Manchester United and Chelsea over the signing of Robert Lewandowski as they feel it will be too difficult to sign Tottenham’s Harry Kane, according to the Independent.
Lewandowski’s future at Bayern Munich has been cast in serious doubt after reports emerged suggesting the striker is ready to quit the German giants this summer in search of a fresh challenge.
The 29-year-old striker is under contract until 2021 and Bayern are keen to keep hold of him but Lewandowski has hired super-agent Pini Zahavi to help negotiate a big-money move at the end of the season.
The Polish international’s situation has alerted clubs here in England as Sky Sports reported earlier this week that Manchester United and Chelsea are both lining-up summer moves if Bayern agree to cash-in.
Jose Mourinho needs to sign a replacement for Zlatan Ibrahimovic while Chelsea are also expected to be in the market for another striker as Alvaro Morata has endured a mixed spell in west London and Lewandowski is firmly on their radars.
However, it looks like United and Chelsea will now face stiff competition as the Independent claim Madrid have joined the race to sign Lewandowski as they fear it will be too difficult to strike a deal with Tottenham for Kane.
Madrid are enduring a difficult season and Zinedine Zidane is expected to overhaul his squad this summer with a new number nine among his priorities and Kane was reportedly his prime target.
However, Spurs will do all they can to hang on to the England international and the newspaper says Madrid have now switched their focus to signing Lewandowski having already held talks with his representatives.
We’ll have to see how things progress over the coming months and I’m sure Bayern will do all they can to persuade the Polish hitman to remain in Germany but Lewandowski would be a sensational signing if United or Chelsea could pull it off.
