Tottenham are ready to steal a march on Arsenal by launching a £45m swoop to sign Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt this summer, according to reports
The transfer window may be closed but managers are working hard on their plans for the summer so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Tottenham are linked with Matthijs de Ligt….
Tottenham are ready to steal a march on Arsenal by launching a £45m swoop to sign Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt this summer, according to the Sun.
De Ligt has been with Ajax his entire career having joined the clubs youth system as a child and he’s developed in to one of the most highly-rated defenders in Europe this season.
The 18-year-old has been virtually ever-present for Ajax this campaign after being named as their youngest ever captain while he’s also become a regular with the Dutch national team.
His impressive form has caught the attention of clubs here in the Premier League as the Sun claims that Arsenal and Tottenham are among the teams to have expressed their interest ahead of the summer.
The Gunners desperately need to strengthen their defence as their vulnerabilities at the back have been exposed once again this season and de Ligt could be viewed as a long-term replacement for Laurent Koscielny.
However, it looks like Tottenham are ready to steal a march on their north London rivals as the Sun says Spurs are set to launch a £45m swoop to sign de Ligt this summer.
Mauricio Pochettino is in the market for another central defender as Toby Alderweireld is expected to be sold after losing his first team place having failed to agree terms over a new contract.
The newspaper report says Pochettino has lined-up de Ligt as a replacement for the Belgian international and will look to lure the Dutch international to the white half of north London over the coming months.
