Man Utd Agree £80m Deal To Sign Serie A Star After Breakthrough In Talks

Manchester United have agreed a mega £80m deal to sign Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic after a breakthrough in talks last week

The summer transfer window is fast approaching and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd agree a fee to sign Sergej Milinkovic-Savic….

Manchester United have agreed a mega £80m deal to sign Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic after a breakthrough in talks last week, according to the Sun.

Jose Mourinho is in the market for at least one new central midfielder as Michael Carrick will retire at the end of the season while Marouane Fellaini’s contract expires in June and he’s yet to sign an extension.

Milinkovic-Savic has emerged as a prime target in recent months with widespread reports suggesting United have been tracking the young midfielder’s progress in Italy.

The 23-year-old has forged a reputation as one of the most exciting young talents in Europe following three excellent seasons at Lazio having made the move from Genk in 2015.

The Serbian international has provided 13 goals and 9 assists from central midfield so far this season to help Simone Inzaghi’s side challenge for a Champions League qualification spot in Serie A.

That impressive form has caught the attention of Mourinho and the Sun claims United have now agreed a stunning £80m deal to sign Milinkovic-Savic at the end of the season following a breakthrough in talks last week.

United had hoped to drive Lazio’s price down but the newspaper says they reluctantly agreed to make Milinkovic-Savic the second most expensive signing in Premier League history as Mourinho is desperate to land the talented midfielder.

It seems the Portuguese coach used his connections to get the deal done as the Sun claim Mourinho’s relationship with Mateja Kezman put United in pole position to sign the Serbian star ahead of the likes of Real Madrid.

Kezman was one of Mourinho’s first signings during his first spell at Chelsea and the former striker is now Milinkovic-Savic’s agent so that relationship has seemingly played a key role in helping United get a deal agreed.

We’ll have to wait and see how much truth there is behind the Sun’s report but Milinkovic-Savic would be a hugely exciting signing for United if their claims turn out to be accurate.
