Jose Mourinho has confirmed he’ll make plenty of changes against Watford this weekend while he’s also offered an update on Romelu Lukaku ahead of the FA Cup final against Chelsea.

Mourinho has been rotating his squad to give the players a chance to force their way in to his plans for the FA Cup final and that will continue for their final Premier League game of the season on Sunday.

The United boss has confirmed that Sergio Romero will get a rare league start against Watford with David De Gea rested having secured the Golden Glove with a clean sheet during the 0-0 draw with West Ham last night.

Mourinho was critical of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford following United’s 1-0 defeat at Brighton and the duo were replaced by Alexis Sanchez and Jesse Lingard against West Ham.

However, Mourinho is ready to give the attackers another chance to impress as he’s confirmed Martial and Rashford will start against Watford on Sunday afternoon.

Michael Carrick will also start this weekend as the 36-year-old prepares to retire at the end of the season while Mourinho has suggested that Daley Blind, Eric Bailly and Juan Mata are also set for recalls against Watford after being named on the bench last night.

Mourinho told ManUtd.com:

“Romero plays on Sunday because he deserves that and some other players are going to play because we as a team achieve the second position and we, as a team, are going to play the FA Cup final,”

“It is normal that Michael Carrick is captain at Old Trafford for the last game of his career. David De Gea will be rested, so it gives a chance for Sergio Romero to play. I can make changes.

“Marcus and Anthony played against Brighton. Today it was for Alexis and [Jesse] Lingard to play and Sunday is again for Martial and Rashford. I also play [Daley] Blind, [Eric] Bailly and [Juan] Mata. I have every player apart from [Marouane] Fellaini and [Romelu] Lukaku available.”

Mourinho has also provided an update on Lukaku’s recovery from an ankle injury and has admitted that the Belgian international may only be fit enough for a place on the bench against Chelsea.

Lukaku suffered the injury during United’s 2-1 win over Arsenal two weeks ago and is currently undergoing treatment in Belgium as he looks to get himself fit to face his former club at Wembley next weekend.

Lukaku will miss the Watford game but Mourinho is desperate for his top scorer to be available against Chelsea, even if it means he’s only fit enough for a place on the bench.

He told ManUtd.com:

“We hope he can play in the final. He is in Belgium, having his treatment with communication between the doctors in Belgium and our medical department. We are just waiting to see if it’s possible for him to be involved in the final. If not starting, then at least on the bench.”

United head in to the Watford game knowing they will finish second no matter the outcome so the players are just wanting to end the league campaign on a high note and secure a morale-boosting win ahead of the FA Cup final.
