From Spain: Man Utd In Battle To Sign £53m La Liga Star
Manchester United will have to battle Real Madrid to sign Samuel Umtiti after the La Liga giants joined the race to sign the £53m-rated Barcelona defender
The summer transfer window is fast approaching and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd face a fight to land Samuel Umtiti…
Manchester United face a battle to sign Samuel Umtiti this summer after Real Madrid joined the race to sign the £53m-rated Barcelona defender, according to reports in Spain via TeamTalk.
Umtiti has developed in to one of the best young centre-backs in Europe since joining Barca from Lyon in 2016 and he’s been an important part of Ernesto Valverde’s starting eleven this season.
However, the 23-year-old’s future at the Nou Camp is in serious doubt as talks over a new contract have stalled amid speculation that Barca are unwilling to meet the player’s hefty wage demands.
It’s led to reports linking Umtiti with a move to Man Utd with the Mirror claiming last month that Jose Mourinho was closing-in on a deal to sign the defender after making his a key summer target.
Mourinho is expected to sign another centre-back this summer as Eric Bailly has failed to force his way back in to the first team since returning from injury while Victor Lindelof has also struggled since arriving from Benfica last summer.
Umtiti has been touted as a leading target for United but it looks like they’ll face some stiff competition as TeamTalk are citing a report from Diario Gol that claims Ream Madrid are now plotting a move of their own.
The Spanish publication says Madrid are willing to treble Umtiti’s wages to try and tempt him in to making a controversial switch to the Bernabeu and have also reserved his favourite No.23 shirt for him.
No doubt Barcelona will be desperate to prevent Umtiti from joining their rivals but the report says the French international has a release clause worth around £53m in his contract so there is little they could do to prevent him leaving if a club agrees to meet that figure.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming weeks but I think Umtiti would be a superb signing for United so it would be a huge blow if they were to lose out to Madrid.
