Dutch Star Demands Liverpool Move After Reds Open Talks Over £52m Deal
Jasper Cillessen has told Barcelona he wants to join Liverpool after they made contact to discuss a potential £52.5m move this summer
The summer transfer window is now open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, the latest on Jasper Cillessen…
Jasper Cillessen has told Barcelona he wants to join Liverpool after they made contact to discuss a potential £52.5m move this summer, according to reports in Spain via the Express.
Jurgen Klopp is in the market for a new number one as Simon Mignolet is set to leave after falling out of favour while the future of Loris Karius is in doubt following his horror show against Real Madrid.
The young German stopper had impressed since taking over the first team shirt during the second half of the season but he was left devastated after making two costly mistakes during the Champions League final defeat last weekend.
It’s left Klopp in need of a more reliable number one if they’re to compete for top honours next season and Cillsessen has emerged as a cheaper alternative to the likes of Jan Oblak and Alisson Becker.
Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo claim Liverpool have made contact with Barcelona via an intermediary agent to ask about Cillsessen’s availability and were told they would have to pay the full value of his £52.5m release clause.
That kind of money is a huge amount for a goalkeeper but it’s still less than Liverpool would have to pay for the likes of Oblak or Alisson – who’ve also been strongly linked with a move to Anfield.
The Express are now citing another report from Diario Gol that claims Cillsessen has informed Barca that he wants to join Liverpool this summer and is desperate to work under Klopp.
The 29-year-old has struggled for regular game time at the Nou Camp as Marc-Andre Ter Stegen is first choice and Cillsessen made just 2 La Liga and Champions League appearances last season.

Barca are reluctant to lose the Dutch international as he’s considered to be a top class back-up goalkeeper but understandably Cillsessen is keen to play regular football and it seems he wants a fresh start at Liverpool.
