Agent Claims Arsenal Have Signed £26m South American Star, Deal To Be Announced Soon
We’ve had further confirmation that Lucas Torreira is heading to Arsenal after an agent of another reported target claimed a deal has been agreed
The summer transfer window is open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are expected to sign Lucas Torreira….
We’ve had further confirmation that Lucas Torreira is heading to Arsenal after an agent of another reported target claimed a deal has been agreed for the Sampdoria star, according to Football London.
Unai Emery is looking to reshape his midfield options as Santi Cazorla has rejoined Villarreal while Jack Wilshere has confirmed that he’ll be leaving the club when his contract expires at the end of the month following 17 years in north London.
We need to sign a specialist defensive midfielder as Granit Xhaka is more of a deep-lying playmaker and his lack of defensive awareness was exposed several times last season so we desperately need to sign a player to offer protection to the back four if we’re to improve our defensive record next season.
Torreira has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates and Football London claim he’s been on the verge of a £26m [€30m] switch this month after Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero confirmed a deal had been agreed for his sale.
Ferrero is quoted by Football London as saying last week:
“Torreira has left for €30million. I bought him from Pescara when no one believed. We bet and we won, paying just €30million. The money that comes in is used to keep the club going.”
Torreira gave little away when he was quizzed about the reports – simply saying Arsenal were one of the best clubs in the world – but he insisted he was focussed on playing for Uruguay at the World Cup. However, a second man within the game has now ‘confirmed’ Torreira is heading to Arsenal.
We’ve also been linked with a move for Celta Vigo midfielder Stanislav Lobotka recently but his agent, Branislav Jasurek, says it’s highly unlikely a deal with come to fruition because Arsenal have already signed Torreira.
Lobotka is quoted as saying by Football London:
“Arsenal have bought Torreira to play six, so I do not think it’s going to happen. We only had a few words about feelings about the club, about what we think about Stanko’s future, but nothing in particular.”
These quotes come after the Express reported that Arsenal are expected to announce a £26m deal for the 22-year-old imminently so it seems Emery is close to revealing his third signing of the summer.

We’ve already confirmed the arrival of right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner from Juventus while goalkeeper Bernd Leno has been signed from Bayer Leverkusen so Torreira could be the latest player to arrive as Emery continues to overhaul the squad.
