Arsenal Agree Personal Terms & £25m Fee As Emery Overhaul Continues
Arsenal have agreed personal terms with Lucas Torreira and finalised terms with Sampdoria over a £25m deal to sign the Uruguayan midfielder
The summer transfer window is open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal have everything in place to sign Lucas Torreira….
Arsenal have agreed personal terms with Lucas Torreira and finalised terms with Sampdoria over a £25m deal to sign the Uruguayan international midfielder, according to a report in the Sun.
New boss Unai Emery has been on the look out for a defensive midfielder since replacing Arsene Wenger at the end of last season as Granit Xhaka is more of a deep lying playmaker and has been criticised for his lack of defensive awareness while Aaron Ramsey is more of a box-to-box type midfielder.
Torreira emerged as a prime target after developing in to one of the best holding players in Serie A since joining Sampdoria from Pescara in 2015 and he’s been showing off his talents for Uruguay at the World Cup this summer having played a starring role in their 2-1 last-16 win over Portugal.
Some Arsenal fans were concerned our proposed move to sign Torreira could be hijacked by a rival club following his excellent displays in Russia, however, it seems we’ve already got a deal in the bag.
The Sun are citing a report from the Daily Mail that claims Arsenal have agreed personal terms with Torreira while the finer details of a £25m deal with Sampdoria have also been finalised.
All that remains is to complete the transfer and the newspaper says that will be delayed until Uruguay are knocked out of the World Cup as Torreira needs to concentrate on their quarter final clash with France on Friday.

Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero confirmed last month that Torreira had left the club and although he didn’t name Arsenal specifically, it’s widely reported that the midfielder is on his way to the Emirates.
Ferrero is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail:
‘Torreira’s gone for €30m. I bought him from Pescara when nobody believed in him. We gambled on him and we won, paying just €3m.’
So it looks like we’ll have to wait until at least next weekend before Torreira’s proposed move to Arsenal is officially announced but I think he’ll prove to be an excellent addition to the squad.
The 22-year-old has all the attributes we’ve been missing in recent years and we’ll finally have a player who’s capable of protecting the back four and doing the dirty work behind Xhaka and Ramsey.

Torreira looks set to become the latest new addition with goalkeeper Bernd Leno and right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner already snapped-up by Emery while a deal for Sokratis Papastathopoulos is also on the verge of completion.
